Match Report.
Devon U13s v Avon U13s
07/10/2007.

Katrina Tucker, Sophie Laidler, Emily Hutchings.
Having Coached the Devon U13s
for the past 3 seasons, but now coaching the U15s, I was very pleased
to be asked to manage the U13 team for their first match of the season
as the U13 coach Emily Macaulay
had a prior engagement on that
day.
The match started well with the
boys winning the singles 5-1.
Daniel Chow saw off a strong
challenge from his opponent Brendan Foreman, winning 21-16, 30-29.
Jamie Bishop also had to dig deep
to overcome Dominic Aitkin winning, 18-21, 21-15, 21-17.
The girls had a tougher time in
the singles, going down 5-1. The one rubber was won by Katrina Tucker
beating Emily Walker 21-7, 21-9.
Another notable performance was
Emily Hutchings. Having only just been selected to train with the U11
squad the month before, and only being 9 years old, she was thrown in
at the deep end with playing in an U13 match. She played very well but
lost 16-21, 8-21.
The Doubles was much closer with
the boys winning 5-4 and the girls losing 4-5. The Avon 1st
pair in the boys and girls doubles were unbeaten.
Hannah Laidler 11, and sister
Sophie 9, made a good pairing and beat the Avon 2nd pair
21-9, 21-17, and the 3rd pair 21-10, 21-13.
So going into the mixed the score
stood at 15-15.
It was all down to the mixed.
Unfortunately Avons mixed pairing
were slightly stronger and we lost the mixed 2-4.
Jamie and Hannah won theirs 21-9,
21-13, and Ross and Katrina won theirs, 21-19, 21-13.
So in the end we lost the match
17-19.
However it is a promising start as
this years U13 squad is a very young one and with the excellent work
the lead coach Emily Macaulay is doing with them, they will be
improving all the time.
Player of the match is Zachary
Philips for his dominant display in his Singles, winning 21-5, 21-9,
and his doubles play.
I wish the Devon U13s squad all
the best for the rest of the season.
