Devon U13 versus Dorset (A)
Sunday 28 October 2007

Match Report
Result:
Lost 27-9
Team:
Although it’s a
cliché this match truly was one where the score doesn’t reflect the
score in the games. A total of twenty eight games were lost by four
or less points and eight went to three ends.
In the singles
notable performances were displayed by Zachary Phillips, who won
against a player that had beaten him the previous week in the Bronze
tournament, and Paul Reed who, in his first game for the Devon U13
squad, took his opponent to three games beating him 24-22 to take the
rubber.
In the boys
doubles Jamie and Tom won one, Zachary and Samuel won two, with
Dominic and Paul were unlucky not to win the rubber they took to three
ends. All three showed much improvement from the previous match,
working as good pairings.
In the girls
doubles Jenny and Katrina, and Hannah and Sophie won a rubber each.
Emily played with a U11 Dorset girl to make up the numbers and showed
great enthusiasm. All the girls played with commitment and worked to
compensate for the five games given as walkovers due to a lack of a
sixth lady.
Samuel and Jenny
won their mixed game convincingly establishing themselves as a good
pairing. Zachary and Katrina were unlucky to lose 22-24.
Player of the
match goes to Samuel Owens who won two level doubles; one mixed and
was unlucky in the singles. All the players are starting to pull
together and play for the team, and it looks like being an exciting
season.
