A great win for Devon against a strong and
determined Somerset team. This really could have gone either way. We
only had 3 hours of court time so it was a bit manic at times, but we
managed to squeeze all the games and in and have a fun game against
Somerset at the end, so a big thank you to Kelly and all the Somerset
team for being great hosts, some of our players even stayed on after
the match to have a swim
The
singles finished 6-6 with Somerset’s 1 and 2 being strong players but
there were wins for Courtenay, Jake, Harri and Bobby Saunders who was
making his first appearance for the U11’s.
The
girls unbelievably finished all square 6-6. Sarah and Emily could not
make the match so with some frantic phone calling, Sophia Summers and
Hannah Laidler played and because Somerset had similar headaches we
agreed it was okay to ask a U13 player to play, so with roles reversed
Hannah Laidler stood into play at 1 against Somerset’s U13 player,
There were wins for Hannah, Sophie, Caity, Lauren and Sophia who was
also making her first appearance for the U11’s.
The
doubles were just as tight with some good partnerships forming,
Charlie and Callum having a real challenge, Bobby and Harri winning in
3 games, Courtenay and Jake losing their first game but then came back
to win 2-1.
The
girls doubles is where we started to get our noses in front with wins
for Hannah and Carmel, Lauren and Caity, and Sophie and Sophia.
So it
was down to the mixed, with nails starting to really wear. Somerset
started to come back, but finally wins for Courtaney and Lauren and
Jake and Sophia sealed a memorable victory.
Well
done to you all!!!!
A big
thanks to Sam Robinson and again to all the parents for there patience
